Im Zeitraum 1959/60 befindet sich Paul Celan in einer Phase intensiver poetologischer Selbstreflexion: im August 1959 entsteht sein 'Gesprach im Gebirg', der einzige erzahlende Prosatextim Werk des Lyrikers, knapp ein Jahr spater im Oktober 1960 die Buchnerpreisrede 'DerMeridian', die als wichtigste poetologische Ausserung Celans gilt. Wahrenddessen schliesst er'Sprachgitter' ab und beginnt die Arbeit an der 'Niemandsrose', seinem vierten Gedichtband.In denselben Zeitraum fallt Celans Bekanntschaft mit Adorno, die von einem Briefwechselbegleitet wird. In einem Brief vom 23. Mai 1960, der die Ubersendung des 'Gesprachs imGebirg' an Adorno begleitet, spricht Celan das erste Mal von Involution. Der Begriff tauchtin den Arbeitsnotizen zum 'Meridian' ebenfalls mehrfach auf. Bernhard Boschenstein kommtder Verdienst zu, ihn hier zuerst gesehen und publik gemacht zu haben. Marlies Janz jedochwar die Erste, die das haufige Auftreten des Begriffes in den unterschiedlichsten Zusammenhangenals Anlass fur die Vermutung nahm, dass es sich bei der Involution um ein systematischesKonzept handeln musse, das einen zentralen Aspekt der Celanschen Poetik darstellt.Die Erkenntnisse, die Janz bereits seit einigen Jahren im Rahmen ihrer Lehrtatigkeit am Institutfur Neuere deutsche Literatur an der Freien Universitat Berlin einer kleineren Offentlichkeitzuganglich gemacht hat, sind nun in systematischer Form in ihrem Beitrag zum aktuellenCelan-Jahrbuch erschienen. Die Thesen, die Janz in ihrem Essay ''Judendeutsch'. Paul CelansGesprach im Gebirg im Kontext der 'Atemwende'' formuliert, sind der zentrale Ausgangspunktfur diese Magisterarbeit.Der Begriff 'Involution' leitet sich von dem lateinischen Verb 'involvere' ab, das im Sinnevon einhullen bzw. verhullen, verbergen verwendet wird Involution wird in erster Linie immedizinisch-biologischen Kontext verwendet und bezeichnet dort die Ruckbildung der Organeund ihrer Leistungen im Alter. Leibniz verwendete Involution daran anknupfend als 'Einwicklungdes Organismus' durch den Tod im Gegensatz zur Evolution als 'Entwicklung desLebens'. Die Verknupfung von Involution und Tod ist auch im Rahmen der Celanschen Poetikvon grosser Bedeutu
