"Sie steht in dem Ruf, jedem auch nur halbwegs geschichtserfahrenen Leser verst�ndlich zu sein," deshalb ist es auch oft in Schulb�chern und an Holocaustgedenktagen pr�sent. Die Todesfuge ist vielf�ltig diskutiert und interpretiert worden, so dass sie zwischen "Verstehen und Missverst�ndnis" schwankt. Von der Gruppe 47 verlacht, aber auch gelobt, ist die Todesfuge ein Gedicht, dass jeder kennen sollte. Auch ich habe mich mit ihr auseinander gesetzt. Die Ergebnisse davon stelle ich nun im Folgenden vor. Celan selbst hat sich nie dazu ge�u�ert "wann und wo sie verfasst worden ist." Doch durch Freunde Celans wei� man, dass die Todesfuge in Czernowitz ungef�hr 1944 geschrieben, jedoch dann 1945 in Bukarest vollendet wurde. Erstmals entstand das Gedicht in rum�nischer Fassung unter dem Namen "Tangoul Mortii" und wurde in Bukarest ver�ffentlicht. Der rum�nische Titel bedeutet "Todestango," dieser wurde bei der deutschen �bersetzung 1947 von Paul Celan in "Todesfuge" umge�ndert. "Celan wies einmal darauf hin, da� Todesfuge aus einem Artikel �ber Juden entstanden sei, die in einem Nazi-Lager Tanzmusik spielen mu�ten." Dieser Hinweis findet sich in der Bukarester Zeitschrift "Contemporanul" in Bezug auf Celans Gedicht. Das Wort "Fuge" kommt aus dem Lateinischen und bedeutet soviel wie "Flucht" und "Weglaufen." So kann der Titel "als Flucht in den Tod" aber auch als "Flucht vor dem Tod" verstanden werden. Die musikalische Fuge wird als "multiperspektivisch" betrachtet: zwei musikalische Themen, ein sogenanntes Haupt- und ein Nebenthema, oder ein Gegenthema werden einander gegen�bergestellt.
