About the Book

Management Information Systems (MIS) are rapidly finding applications in many areas, including environmental conservation, economic planning, resource integration, cartography, urban planning, risk assessment, pollution control and transport management systems. Bringing together contributions from researchers in academia and industry as well as land use planners and technology network managers, this volume features papers presented at the fourth international conference on this topic. Representing the state-of-the-art in MIS, individual contributions reflect the various ways in which this technology plays an active role in linking together economic development and environmental conservation planning through its own unique characteristics. The growing use of MIS in various fields of application and the need to investigate different systems, including GIS facilities, are also highlighted.

Table of Contents:
Section 1: Applications of GIS and GPS An integrated GPS-GIS surface movement ground control system; Web-GIS based urban management information system: the case of satellite cities in Istanbul; GIS - application to make geomorphometric analysis in raster data; GIS and GPS as useful tools to determine transportation noise levels; Investigation of asthmatic disorders using GIS technology; GIS/data mining applied for identification of environmental risk factors for diseases; Database design and GIS application in brownfields management: the case of Torviscosa site, Italy Section 2: Applications of MIS Will the real MIS please stand up?; Insula: urban maintenance system; MIS systems in Armenian water resources management: a case study; A distributed system for mobile information communications; Visibility and viewshed algorithms in an information system for environmental management Section 3: Remote sensing Land cover classification of QuickBird multispectral data with an object-oriented approach; Agrology in olive grove soils in the P. A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
