Richard CulyerRichard Culyer has received certification in nine areas, ranging from exceptional education to secondary social studies as well as supervisor and as a K-12 principal. He has taught at the elementary and the middle school levels and served as Assistan Director of Right to Read for the Florida State Department of Education. He has also taught at Appalachian State University and most recently was professor of education at Coker College. His publications include co-authoring a book entitled Preventing Reading Failure: Translating Theory Into Practice. A research-based reading program he co-developed with his wife has been recognized as one of 19 effective reading programs in What Works In The Elementary School. In addition, he has published articles in a wide range of education journals. Dr. Culyer is listed in Who's Who in America and serves as reviewer for two national publications. He has served on six committees of the International Reading Association and also served on six editorial review boards for national organizations and was a founder, president, and state coordinator of the North Carolina Reading Association.
