Eelke MullerEelke Muller, MFA, studied Literary Theory and History at the University of Groningen. She has researched art theft and restitution since 1998. Currently, she works at the Dutch Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies (NIOD) and conducts reearch for the Dutch Advisory Committee on the Assessment of Restitution Applications for Items of Cultural Value and the Second World War. Muller has written and contributed to several works on looted art. Recently, she co-authored the English-language study The Looting and Return of Dutch Cultural Property During and After World War II (Waanders, 2023), a publication by the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency. She also wrote the English-language research manual Tracking Down the Provenance of Old Masters (2023) for CODART, the international network for curators of Dutch and Flemish art. In addition to this book, Muller is working on several other English-language publications. These include two articles on the emotional impact of art looting, to be published by the Rijksmuseum and the Jewish Museum in Amsterdam in 2024. That same year she will publish an English-language book on an impressionist painting by the Danish-French artist Camille Pissarro (Waanders, 2024). The wartime history of this work is intertwined with the tragic fate of a family of wealthy Jewish carpet manufacturers who fled to the United States.
