BartkowskiJohn and his future wife Dorothy were born to families of Polish immigrants who migrated to northeastern Pennsylvania in the late 1800s and early 1900s for a better life. John was born on the kitchen table in his grandmother's house in Dickson City, ennsylvania, where he grew up and experienced many of the events in his life, including meeting Dorothy. They grew up during the great depression and World War II. Upon graduating from Dickson City High School, John attended the University of Scranton, on a basketball scholarship and began dating Dorothy. John served in the military from 1952 to 54 which led to his career working at the Department of Army. John and Dorothy were married in 1950 and settled in southeastern Pennsylvania where they lived, worked and raised their family. John and Dorothy worked together to achieve the American dream, middle class Americans. This biography is John's first literary work. What began as John dictating his life along with that of his wife, the late, Dorothy Dodo Buza, for his daughters and grandchildren, evolved to include the heritage of the two families, background information on the area where the families settled in Pennsylvania, and a slice of the history of this country.
