About the Book

'Stuti Chintamani' of Bhima Bhoi is a treatise of hundred stutis in Odia language. 'Stuti Chintamani Katha Vol. - I' presents English translation of the first fifty stutis and commentaries. These stutis are prayers to the Brahman for bliss in self and society. Spiritualism and social changemaking are the two pillars on which Stuti Chintamani stands and exhibits its philosophical and literary excellence. This Katha explores the mystic saint poet Bhima Bhoi to show how his thoughts are engaging for readers of all the generations including gen-Z. Bhima Bhoi, born in Odisha, India to Kandha tribal parents is a mystic saint poet, social changemaker and a philosopher. Stuti Chintamani is his prime literary work consisting of one hundred prayers, each having twenty stanzas. The poet of medieval times being blessed by his guru Mahima Swamy, used to sing the songs of Shunyabrahma . He neither had formal education nor had any training on scriptures. But being blessed by his Guru he started singing songs in praise of the Divine Anama Brahma. Fortunately, there were scribes who could write the streaming songs on palm leaves. The saint's literary works have added excellence to Odia literature. Stuti Chintamani not only narrates the essence of Visudha Adwaitabad but also it depicts the then sufferings of masses due to social discrimination and hegemony of social elites. The saint while narrating the essence of Shunyabad, gives a call for social transformation for rise of satya and dharma in society. He presents a bottom-up process of social change that starts with self awakening and living-with the Brahman so the Brahman guides each to lead life divine that not only promises spiritual emancipation of self but also all the living and non-living world entities. The author of the Katha has taken special care to minimise the loss in translation and also has made efforts in exploring the essences of stutis. The imprints of vedantic thoughts the stutis carry with are also touched upon. While writing this book the author has taken care of readers' psychology. While believers may find the commentary in line of vedic thoughts, non-believers finds the narratives engaging. Growing up children and adults may find the santha projecting his world on the world of reality so they find the santha's thoughts convincing and inviting. The returns in sale of this Katha will be donated to ashrams that care wandering avadhuts who pawn their liberation for welfare of all in samsara as Bhima Bhoi tells in Stuti Chintamani People suffer from awful miseries Who can bear their pains and cries. Let my life be condemned to a hell But emancipate all, the world total.[SC:27.7] The author of this Katha, Hrushikesha Mohanty born in Bangalpur, a village in Baleswar district of Odisha, holds a PhD degree from IIT Kharagpur. He served in Electronics Corporation of India Limited and University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad. Post retirement he was visiting professor at University of Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad and CVR College of Engineering, Hyderabad. His interest includes Science, Spiritualism and Literature. As he tells his encounter with Stuti Chintamani culminating to this Katha is foreordained.
