Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 2,0 - gut, Technische Universitat Dresden (Institut fur Politikwissenschaft - Lehrstuhl fur Politische Theorie), Veranstaltung: Proseminar: Einfuhrung in das Studium der politischen Theorie, 12 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Kein anderer Autor in der Geschichte des politischen Denkens ruft so unterschiedliche Interpretationen hervor wie Thomas Hobbes. 1588 in Westport bei Malmesbury in England geboren, genoss er eine umfangreiche Bildung und wurde zum Hauslehrer und Berater zahlreicher adliger Familien. Bis zu seinem Tod 1688 war er auch zu Lebzeiten durchaus umstrittene Personlichkeit. Oft wird ihm sein Arrangement mit den unterschiedlichsten englischen Regierungen vorgeworfen. Aus Furcht vor Inhaftierung und dem Tod zog es Hobbes allerdings auch oft vor, seine Heimat zu verlassen und ins Exil zu gehen. Bei einem seiner unfreiwilligen Auslandsaufenthalte entstand sein beruhmtestes politisches Werk "Leviathan oder Materie, Form und Gewalt eines kirchlichen und staatlichen Gemeinwesens." 1651 in englischer Sprache veroffentlicht, beschreibt es Hobbes Theorie des Gesellschaftsvertrages. Der ambivalente Charakter des "Leviathan" lasst scheinbar unvereinbare, divergierende Deutungen zwischen "liberal" und "absolutistisch" zu. Unbestritten ist aber, dass der hobbessche Souveran zum Zweck der Friedenssicherung errichtet wird. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit steht die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Hobbes' Gesellschaftsvertrag. Folgende Fragestellung soll dabei beantwortet werden: Welche Elemente der Theorie des Gesellschaftsvertrages mussen verworfen werden, um den friedenssichernden Effekt des Leviathan zu fordern? Erwachsen nicht aus manchen Auffassungen neue Schwierigkeiten, die eine Verwirklichung des Friedens unmoglich machen, weil sie immer neuen Anlass fur Konflikte bieten? Die Frage zielt darauf ab, haufig erhobene Kritikpunkt
