Andreas Lehnardt legt eine kommentierte Übersetzung des Traktates Besa (Ei) des Jerusalemer Talmud vor. Der Traktat Besa ist der 8. Traktat der zweiten Ordnung, Moced (Feste), und behandelt die den Feiertag (Yom Tov) betreffenden Gebote. Als Feiertag, der dem Ruhegebot und dem Gebot zur Festtagsfreude unterliegt, gelten nach rabbinischer Überlieferung sechs Tage: Der erste und siebte Tag des Pesah-Festes, der erste und achte Tag des Laubhüttenfestes ('Sukkot'), der Tag des Wochenfestes ('Shavu'ot') und der erste Tag des Monats Tishri, das Neujahrsfest ('Rosh ha-Shana'). Auf diese Tage trifft das in Lev 23,7.21.30.36 überlieferte Ruhegebot zu. Dieses Gebot wird nur durch den für das Verständnis des Traktates grundlegenden Vers Ex 12,16 ("Und am ersten Tag sei eine heilige Versammlung, und am siebten Tag sei eine heilige Versammlung für euch; keine Arbeit sollt ihr an ihnen verrichten; nur was jedes Lebewesen zur Nahrung benötigt, dies allein dürft ihr euch zubereiten.") eingeschränkt. Dieser Vers bezieht sich eigentlich nur auf das Pesah-Fest, wurde aber von den Rabbinen auch auf die anderen Feiertage übertragen. Neben halakhischen Erörterungen über Speisen enthält der Traktat auch einige kurze haggadische Passagen, die für Historiker von Interesse sind. Die Übersetzung folgt der nach wie vor verbreitetsten Edition Krotoszyn 1865/66. Andreas Lehnardt berücksichtigt auch die in der Synopse zum Talmud Yerushalmi edierten Handschriften und Drucke sowie einige indirekte Textzeugen. Der Kommentar erläutert unter Berücksichtigung traditioneller Kommentare wie dem des berühmten Kabbalisten El'azar ben Moses Azikri (1533 - ca. 1600) alle wichtigen Probleme der Übersetzung. Erörtert werden auch in der modernen Sekundärliteratur behandelte Probleme der Interpretation. Beigegeben sind eine Bibliographie und Erläuterungen zur Methodik. Ein Register schließt den Band ab.
