About the Book

Fondée à Sudbury en 1992, la Société Charlevoix est un regroupement d’universitaires qui se consacrent à des travaux savants sur l’Ontario français. Par son nom, la Société honore la mémoire du jésuite Pierre-François-Xavier de Charlevoix (1682-1761), qui a laissé des observations remarquables sur le territoire ontarien. Limités en tout temps à dix en nombre, ses membres examinent les réalités franco-ontariennes selon les perspectives variées qu’apportent leurs disciplines. Leur élection se fait par cooptation, à l’unanimité des voix. Depuis 1995, la Société Charlevoix publie les Cahiers Charlevoix. Études franco-ontariennes, un collectif exclusivement dévolu à la diffusion des travaux de ses membres. Le numéro 14 comprend des articles de : Jean-Pierre Pichette, Yves Frenette, Simon Laflamme, Julie Boissonneault, Ali Reguigui, Serge Miville et Michel Bock.

About the Author :
Yves Frenette (Author) Yves Frenette is Professor of North American history and holds the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Migrations, Transfers and Francophone Communities at Université de Saint-Boniface, in Winnipeg. Julie Boissonneault (Author) Julie Boissonneault has been a faculty member at Laurentian University since 2003 and works in sociolinguistics and didactics of French language in a minority situation. With more than 30 years of experience in teaching at the post-secondary level and in research, her main field of interest lies with French language in Ontario and its social outcomes. She is currently the editor of the Revue du Nouvel-Ontario. She is also accredited with the Ph.D. Program in Human Sciences as well as with the M.Sc. program in orthophonie (Speech pathology). Professeure à l'Université Laurentienne depuis 2003, Julie Boissonneault oeuvre en sociolinguistique et en didactique du français langue maternelle (en situation minoritaire). Avec près de trente d'expérience en enseignement au postsecondaire et en recherche, elle s'intéresse particulièrement au français parlé en Ontario et à ses enjeux sociaux. Elle est rédactrice en chef de la Revue du Nouvel-Ontario. Elle est également membre des programmes de Ph.D. ès sciences humaines et de M.Sc. en orthophonie. Jean-Pierre Pichette (Author) Jean-Pierre Pichette est professeur associé et ancien titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en oralité des francophonies minoritaires d’Amérique (COFRAM, 2004-2011). Il a été directeur du Département de folklore et ethnologie de l’Université de Sudbury de 1983 à 2004 et professeur à cette université entre 1981 et 2004. Pichette a fait des recherches sur l’ethnologie des francophones en Amérique du Nord, qu’il s’est employé à faire connaître tant au Canada qu’en Europe. Il a fondé les archives de folklore de l’Université de Sudbury. Il a dirigé la revue Rabaska, une revue d’ethnologie de l’Amérique française. Spécialiste du conte populaire, du folklore et du patrimoine culturel, il est l’auteur du Répertoire ethnologique de l’Ontario français. Il s’intéresse à la littérature orale et aux traditions populaires de l’Amérique française. Ses travaux ont aussi étudié le passage de l’oral à l’écrit, et ceux qui l’ont pratiqué, les sources orales en littérature, et le phénomène de la résistance des marges qu’il a formulé dans le Principe du limaçon. Simon Laflamme (Author) Simon Laflamme studied philosophy and sociology. He has been teaching at Laurentian University since 1984 where he lectures in theory and methodology in the sociology program and the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in human studies. He is one of the founders of the journal Nouvelles perspectives en sciences sociales. He is the author of several books including Le meurtre du partenaire intime (Sudbury, Prise de parole, 2018, avec Mélanie Girard), L'autonomisation des sciences humaines (Paris, L'Harmattan, 2016), Suites sociologiques (Sudbury, Prise de parole, 2006), Homogénéité et distinction (Sudbury, Prise de parole, 2003, with Ali Reguigui), Des Biens, des idées et des personnes au Canada (1981-1995): un modèle macrologique relationnel (Sudbury/Paris, Prise de parole / L'Harmattan, 2000), Communication et émotion. Essai de microsociologie relationnelle (Paris, L'Harmattan, 1995), La Société intégrée (New York/Paris, Peter Lang, 1992). Simon Laflamme a fait des études de philosophie et de sociologie. Il enseigne à l'Université Laurentienne depuis 1984. Il y donne des cours de théorie et de méthode dans le programme de sociologie et dans celui de doctorat interdisciplinaire en sciences humaines. Il est un des fondateurs de la revue Nouvelles perspectives en sciences sociales. Il est membre actif du comité de rédaction de la revue.
