About the Book

When he can't be team captain, Isaac stomps away and threatens not to play anymore. When he's told homework must come before fun, he stomps back to his Mum and gets sent to his room. When he refuses to listen to a classmate's opinion, he must redo an entire assignment. Isaac doesn't know how to disagree appropriately or respectfully, and it's creating problems at home and in the classroom. With help from a caring teacher and his loving Mum, Isaac learns four specific steps that will help him respond in more appropriate ways when he has a disagreement. If he can master these steps, he will be able to stand up for himself while still being respectful toward others, realize that it's okay to have disagreements if done the right way, understand that sometimes he must agree to disagree, and be empowered to accept answers or results he doesn't like. THAT'S WRONG! is a must-read story filled with helpful lessons about managing conflict, learning to negotiate, accepting comprises, and disagreeing respectfully. A special page written specifically for parents and educators offers tips on teaching and reinforcing the skill of disagreeing appropriately.

About the Author :

Author, counselor, coach, and dad Bryan Smith adds another important life skill to his popular Stepping Up Social Skills book series, which also includes Are You Working Hard or Hardly Working? But I Need Your Help Now! and What's Your Choice?

The series is written for children in grades K-6 and follows the adventures of Isaac, a young boy learning how to control his impulses, be more self-reliant, and take responsibility.

Review :

We use many of Bryan Smith's books to teach social-emotional learning skills. This is another wonderful addition! I loved the story and how relatable it is for our students. The steps are very helpful and we use them to have the students practice each skill. Our students always get excited when I pull out one of these books!

You Can't go Wrong!

I enjoyed reading "That's Wrong!" I was just talking with fifth grade student this morning about how to disagree with an adult respectfully. The examples used in the story are spot on with student behavior. I will be purchasing "That's Wrong " to use during my SEL lessons with my Lindbergh ES students, they are familiar with Mr. Smith's characters in previous books I've shared with and enjoy them.

- G. Crosby

Having been an educator for more than 20 years, trying to teach young children to disagree appropriately is always a challenge. Bryan's book, That'sWrong!, gives teachers and parents the perfect tool for illustrating what a disagreement can look like and how to respond appropriately even if you have to agree to disagree. I really appreciate how this book explains that disagreeing is okay as long as you do it in a polite, respectful way!
