Review :
Children's author Amanda M. Thrasher has crafted the story of Boris and Lily. Boris and Lily aren't your typical children - they are fairies in training. But like most small children, Boris and Lilly are definitely mischievous. In Mischief in the Mushroom Patch, Boris and Lilly find themselves in a world of trouble as they venture out of the mushroom patch against fairy rules. When children misbehave they must face the consequences and that's exactly what happens to Boris and Lilly. Mademoiselle Francesca sentences the two mischievous fairlings to the dusting factory where they will assist the dust fairies. During their tenure, Boris and Lilly learn the importance of following rules and the hastiness of waste. In addition to a valuable lesson learned, the small fairlings are enamored with the production of fairy dust and its uses. Amanda M. Thrasher makes Mischief in the Mushroom Patch easy to read for even the smallest of children but keeps the interest of even the eldest. I found these fairies, although, amusingly mischievous, to be the most polite of children I've ever read about. I feel this book is destined to be a children's classic because of author, Amanda Thrasher's substantial gift for resolving any situation with courage and kindness. When their boundless sense of adventure lands Lilly and Boris in big trouble, it becomes a lesson for us all in the rewards of selfless valor. Subsequently, their very real fear of the consequences of their mischief, by their own attitudes of accepting responsibility, is transormed into a magical period in their young lives they will remember fondly always. Having worked in a rock quarry in my younger days, I am impressed with Ms. Thrasher's detail in describing the process of producing the fairy dust. I wonder if what I helped produce back then actually sparkled and I just never took time to notice it. I eagerly look forward to reading the next in the series of adventures in the mushroom patch! In this delightful story of the adventures of Lily, Boris and Jack, we view the world as only the young or young at heart can do. Amanda M. Thrasher captures the true innocence and sweetness one would imagine of fairies in her depiction of the lives and work of both the youngest and elder fairies in this book. In a world where our children are sheltered from learning responsibility for their actions and forget how good it feels to be nice, Amanda M. Thrasher gives us back those qualities. I highly recommend this book for children of all ages and those adults that just want to recapture that innocence lost in our hectic and stressful lives. Whether you read it alone or to your children it is a book to be enjoyed again and again.
