Review :
Carolyn Miles, President & CEO, Save the Children USA: "A guide to one of the best careers in the world: helping others. What could be a better job than that?! Global educates and informs as it provides a practical guide to careers in international development, business and government." --Lyla Bashan "Carolyn Miles " Stephen McFarland, former US Ambassador to Guatemala: "A truly inspiring guide for future practitioners of diplomacy and development! Lyla draws on her extensive overseas experience to engage a new generation of global citizens and activists about development and diplomatic theory, history, and policy. Woven throughout are heart-wrenching analyses of development challenges, and compelling descriptions of how governments, international bodies, NGOs, and concerned citizens can make a difference in improving the lives of those in extreme poverty. This is an extremely practical insider's perspective on how to break into the ranks of development and diplomatic professionals." --Lyla Bashan "Stephen McFarland " Parag Khanna, author of How to Run the World and Connectography "A timely and essential book! With passion and wisdom, Lyla has written the one-stop guide for teens and college students all over the world to get up to speed on pressing global issues, understand how connected we all are, and most importantly: decide what they will do to make a better world. Educating future leaders should begin with this book." --Lyla Bashan "Parag Khanna " Bob Mandel, Professor of International Affairs, Lewis & Clark College: "This book is essential reading for anyone passionate about getting more involved in fixing the planet, international relations, or the true meaning of global citizenship. Written in a breezy, easy-to-read style, it is crammed full of fascinating and useful insights and tidbits that will draw you in and suggest to you exactly what role you can play in making the world a better place for all of us." --Lyla Bashan "Bob Mandel " Neal Keny-Guyer, CEO, Mercy Corps: "At a time when support for international engagement seems under threat, this book reminds us all - and especially our younger citizens - of the importance of feeling connected to and serving others. Our future depends on the energy and inspiration of ordinary heroes around the world. Global is the perfect book for all who want to find meaning and joy in service to our common destiny." --Lyla Bashan "Neal Keny-Guyer " Tessie San Martin, President & CEO, Plan International USA: "Engaging, well structured, and eminently readable! The issues are clearly explained, distilled into their essential elements (not an easy thing to do given the complexity of this work). This book is a must-read for anyone who is interested, or thinks they are interested, in the field of international development. It should also be a basic resource for career counselors at colleges and universities." --Lyla Bashan "Tessie San Martin " Jonathan Addleton, former US Ambassador to Mongolia; USAID Mission Director to India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Mongolia & Central Asia: "A very readable mix of reflection, guidance and essential information, it is exactly the kind of resource that a college student, recent university graduate or young professional needs as they look toward creative ways to engage successfully on a global stage." --Lyla Bashan "Jonathan Addleton " Admiral James Stavridis (Ret), Dean, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University: "A sweeping yet readable summary of how the international system actually works and how idealistic young women and men can help make the world a better place. As the Dean of a graduate school of international relations, I strongly endorse it as a guidebook to a life spent serving the world." --Lyla Bashan "Admiral James Stavridis (Ret), Dean, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University "
