About the Book

' And I thought it would be easier of I were a different Jew . . . In this country, the stereotypical Jew has a European background. Who was I with my fifth generation Australian heritage and not one relative killed in the Holocaust?' - Andrea Goldsmith, 'Only Connect: Musings of an Australian Jew' ENOUGH ALREADY celebrates the emergence in Australia of a number of significant Jewish writers over the past decade. Among them: Lily Brett, Bernard Cohen, Tobsha Learner and Arnold Zable. Born post-war, they focus on concerns and themes far different from those of their predecessors. Some, like Andrea Goldsmith, delve into issues of identity; others focus on issues not particularly Jewish. But as a group hey enhance a rich Jewish tradition in this country, one that embraces such luminaries as Judah Waten, Nancy Keesing, Fay Zwicky and Morris Lurie. This is the first anthology of its kind to also explore the edges of Jewish writing in Australia and includes the unlikely suspects Brian Castro and Dorothy Porter, both of whom have Jewish ancestry.
