About the Book

Heat Transfer topics are commonly of a very complex nature. Often different phenomena such as heat conduction, convection, thermal radiation and phase change occur simultaneously. Advances in numerical solution methods of nonlinear partial differential equations and access to high-speed, efficient computers have led to dramatic progress in recent years, but there is still a need to develop further innovative approaches for the solution of a variety of problems of current interest. This volume contains edited versions of the papers presented at the Seventh International Conference on Advanced Computational Methods in Heat Transfer. The objective of this conference series is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of advanced topics, new approaches and application of advanced computational methods to heat transfer problems. The contributions are divided under the following headings: diffusion-convection; conduction including nonlinear problems; natural and forced convection; phase change; metal casting, welding, forging and other processes; heat and mass transfer; advances in computational methods; heat exchangers; and modelling and experiments in heat transfer.

Table of Contents:
Section 1: Diffusion-convection Numerical simulation of thermal transport in complicated domains with strong material property changes; Analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer in district heating pipelines using the finite element method Section 2: Conduction including non-linear problems The use of 3D temperature field calculations in casting and rolling; Combined inverse heat conduction method for highly transient processes Section 3: Natural and forced convection Mixed convection in a horizontal tube with external longitudinal fins; Flow and thermal characteristics of magnetic fluid in a partly heated pipe; Numerical modelling of transport phenomena in the vicinity of a gas-liquid interface; Finite element study of three-dimensional flow and heat transfer in mold filling process; Numerical study of laminar natural convection of air in an annulus allowing for variable fluid properties; Combined natural convection and radiation heat transfer in an open tilted cavity; Numerical analysis of conjugate heat transfer in a melt-crucible model of Czochralski systems: combined Coriolis and MHD effects on time-dependent 3D melt convection; Modelling of a viscous fluid cooling inside a vessel with walls at a constant temperature; Heat and mass forced convection in a composite fluid-porous annular enclosure Section 4: Phase change DRBEM computational modelling and non-destructive experiments for surface heat flux determination in direct chill casting of aluminium alloy billets; Super-heating effect on the solidification of a binary substance within a vertical annular enclosure; Spherical solidification by the enthalpy method and heat balance integral method; Numerical simulation of heat and mass transfer during solidification of binary mixtures on n-alkanes; Time dependent simulations of heat transfer in a Czochralski furnace; On application of combined momentum and Eulerian fractions method for modelling two-phase flows with phase transitions; Computational modeling of pulsed laser-induced phase change processes in II - VI semiconductors; A subcooled boiling experimental application for finned surfaces cooling; Pilot calculation of the temperature field of the ceramic material EUCOR; Heat and mass transfer under the film condensation from vapour-gas-dust mixtures; Numerical analysis and parameter identification during Czochralski crystal growth Section 5: Metal casting, welding, forging and other processes Modelling of air/water cooling of superalloys at high temperatures; Evaluation of thermal properties of magnesium fluoride powders, influence of mechanical compression, powder composition and gaseous conditions; Aspects regarding the heat transfer in furnaces for rolling mills Section 6: Heat and mass transfer Predictive modelling of heat and mass transfer in hamburger patties; Numerical simulation of temperature fluctuation in frozen food products during storage; Mass and thermal flow in glaciers; The role of the thermo-transport and heat loss in the axial macrosegregation; Analysis of the heat transfer instability in a wavy channel for a developing regime; Heat transfer processes in nonlinear oil formations; Heat transfer investigation during combustion of methane-air mixture in reciprocating engine cylinder Section 7: Advances in computational methods Modelling heat transfer using adaptive finite elements, boundary elements and meshless methods; On modelling of thermal radiation properties for biofuels; Numerical investigation of chip cooling using volume averaging technique (VAT); Heat field rotation method of crystal growth: numerical simulations; Numerical simulation of induction heating processes; comparison between direct multiharmonic and classical staggered approaches; Non-linear analysis of heat transfer in burnising rolling operation; Sequential function estimation of distributive surface heat flux using dual reciprocity boundary element method; Online laser curing with preheating of thermoset composites in filament winding; Three-dimensional combustion modelling of a biomass fired pulverized fuel boiler Section 8: Heat Exchangers Dynamic behaviour of heat exchangers; Peculiarities of tube bank heat transfer in cross foam flow; 3D unstructured finite volume technique for modelling earth air heat exchangers Section 9: Modelling and experiments in heat transfer Experimental validation of a model-based controller for a rectangular natural circulation loop; Induced heat transfer from human skin; its relationship to the blood perfusion in the tissue; TB dynamic behaviour during thermal shocks - simulation and experiment Author Index
