About the Book

This text consists of papers presented at the Eighth International Conference on Air Pollution. The contributions are the work of scientists from industry, research organizations, government and academia who are involved with the monitoring, simulation and management of air pollution problems. They address experimental and computational techniques which can be used to understand and solve such problems, touching on topics including modelling chemical transformation, turbulence, and air pollution; transport emissions; health problems; and the monitoring and management of air quality.

Table of Contents:
Section 1: Air pollution modelling - Modeling of air quality during a short winter period in Switzerland and comparison with summer results; Pre-modelling for ESCOMPTE in the Marseille-Fos-Berre area; Reliability and validity of regional air pollution simulations; Semi-Langrangian transport algorithm for episodic atmospheric pollution; A neural network forecasting system for daily air quality index in Macau; Five months quasi-operational forecasting of atmospheric constituents comparison of results to data from official monitoring networks; Ambient air quality monitoring and modelling near a non-ferrous metals industrial site; Implementation of the Multiscale Climate Chemistry Model (MCCM) for Central Mexico; Impact of the pollutant emission reduction in the atmospheric pollution of the region of Madrid by using a photochemical model; Air pollution episodes: modelling tools for improved smog management (APPETISE); The multi-puff approach and the optimum interpolation technique to improve a classical Gaussian model; Differences of 1996 and 1997 sources contributions of volatile organic compounds in Mexico City; A numerical study on acid rain and neutralization by yellow-sand in East Asia; Modelling dense gas dispersion in complex environments; Determination of the diffusion coefficients by inversion of measured concentration of air pollutants; A comparison of three different dry deposition velocities in STEM-II applied around As Pontes power plant; Estimation of the initial lifting height of polluted airmass due to biomass burning using meso-scale meteorological model.
