About the Book

A collection of papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Computer Aided Assessment and Control - Damage and Fracture Mechanics 2000. The contributions are the work of scientists and engineers from different disciplines involved in the study and assessment of localised damage, and address fracture, fatigue and safe design with emphasis on the application of advanced techniques. Both critical reviews of existing ideas and explorations of new ideas of research across a wide range of applications including static and dynamic loadings, and probabilistic and deterministic analysis are included. Topics covered include fracture mechanics and fracture criteria; composite materials; dynamic fracture; fatigue; design considerations and industrial applications; failure analysis; metallic and non-metallic materials; plasticity and viscoplasticity; finite elements, boundary elements and other advanced numerical techniques.

Section 10:Advanced Analysis Methods - Highly accurate values of KI and KII of axially symmetrical cracked body subjected to tension obtained by FEM; Stability of tunnel face using coupled DSC & TFA models; The boundary collocation method for multiple collinear cracks near finite boundaries in an unstiffened sheet; Stress intensity factors for two critical angular positions of semi-elliptical surface cracks in shafts; A hybrid method based upon the finite element alternating technique for 3D fracture analysis; A higher-order finite element to model singularities; Implementation of a unified material model in finite element analysis and simulations of cracked components; Coupled modeling using unified function. Section 11: Metallic and Non-Metallic Materials - Development of Al2O3/Cu functionally gradient material based on residual stress analysis; Numerical verification of the Bridgman model for notched and unnotched round specimens. Section 12: Environmental Effects - A thermo-plastic damage model for cyclic loading of concrete at elevated temperatures; Contribution for modelling creep and drying shrinkage of reinforced concrete structures; Corrosion prediction in aging aircraft materials; Corrosion performance of zinc chromate (hexa:tri Cr) complex compound coating on zinc coated components.
