About the Book

Echo of Wars is the start of an adventurous attempt, by an award winning Anglo-Iraqi poet, to break down the barriers between disciplines, cultures and languages. The poems are unique and varied. In one comic, yet poignant, poem the leader of a super power encounters his deafeated opposite, on their way to heaven; we see a son asking his father to take him to Baghdad to find out why such a place dominated the world media for so many years, and there is an insightful poem about the conflict between big and strong nations. Others describe our lives and the animals, the Widow, the Orphan, even the Brave Soldier. Echo of Wars tells of a lesson given by stupid teachers to clever students. What do you do when pupils are more intelligent than their teachers? You end up in Baghdad? Or in Basra? The Iraqi War has many facets, with many players inside and outside... there are plenty of losers… the initial winners ended losers when the mission was accomplished with a pair of shoes...

About the Author :
Professor M.R. Ali is an Anglo-Iraqi poet with a BSc. degree from the University of Wales and a Ph.D. from London University. His early career began in engineering and teaching before he switched to art. Believing that science and art could work in harmony, he founded the concept of `Artology’ and then `Deltaism’ as post cubism. He then went further by inventing the `Deltar’, a patented musical instrument derived from mathematics. His love of poetry started in Kerbela, Iraq, his place of birth. At that time he was a keen poetry reader and studied Arabic poetry and literature. In time his interests shifted from engineering and science to poetry and literature. The unique quality of his exploration of poetry is the combination of his scientific knowledge in English and his background in Arabic poetry, which cumulates in descriptive poems of various themes and topics in the English language. His previously published poetry books include Poems for the Cities, and Poems for Art’s Sake.
