About the Book
Our food systems - the way we produce, market and consume food - are part of the political, social, economic, ecological and cultural fabric of our communities. As such, the aim of this book is to explore the development of sustainable food systems in the Global South. We analyse the current state of affairs, identify challenges and assess existing policies and frameworks. By conducting this comprehensive analysis, the authors offer actionable insights and guidance to stakeholders involved in food governance and management, including policymakers, researchers, and practitioners particularly in the Global South. This book is also of interest to a wider audience to appreciate, compare and contrast these practices and their applications for sustainable development drawing on different methodologies, analytical frames, contexts and settings. This edited volume provides reviews, primary research findings and methodologies that will deepen and broaden insights into food systems, vulnerabilities and sustainable policy frameworks in the Global South. The book is essential reading for researchers, scholars and policymakers in the fields of agricultural economics, sustainable development, food security and global studies and can also be used by graduate and advanced undergraduate students studying courses related to agricultural economics, environmental studies, international development and public policy.

Joseph Muroiwa (Edited By)
Joseph Muroiwa is a Lecturer in the Department of Agribusiness and Management at Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics (University of Fort Hare, RSA), MSc in Strategic Management (Chinhoyi University of Technology, Zim) and BSc Honours Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Zimbabwe. His work experience spans over 15 years in various capacities within the Banking Sector, Government of Zimbabwe, Agribusiness sector, Academic Institutions and NGOs. He has successfully coordinated and implemented work in Agribusiness Management, Resilience Building, Private Sector Engagement, Livelihoods, Food Security, Disaster Risk Management, Holistic Land and Livestock Management, climate resilience interventions in partnership with various stakeholders including government departments, The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), FCDO, USAID, European Union, Swedish Embassy, The International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Plan International, CARE International and various private sector institutions. Basil Shumbanhete (Edited By)
Basil Shumbanhete is an Accountant and Finance specialist currently lecturing at Marondera University within the Faculty of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship, the department of Agribusiness. He studied for his Master of Science in Accounting and Finance (National University of Science and Technology) and a B Com Accounting from the Open University of Zimbabwe. He also holds a professional qualification in Accounting from ACCA. Basil has worked in a number of organisations including the education sector, the banking sector, and an accounting firm also within the public sector. His areas of interest include agriculture finance, green accounting, auditing, blockchain technology, financial technology and value chain management.
