Review :
Fel arfer, yn yr wythnosau syn dilyn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, mae gan y darllenydd ryw syniad or hyn y gall ei ddisgwyl or ddwy gyfrol ryddiaith fydd wedi gwerthu orau yn ystod yr wyl nofel ac iddi linyn storol cryf yng nghyfrol Gwobr Goffa Daniel Owen, a gwaith ychydig yn fwy llenyddol neu arbrofol yng nghyfrol y Fedal Ryddiaith. Eleni, o wrando ar y beirniadaethau llwyfan, gallech feddwl fod y ddau enillydd wedi cyflwyno eu cyfrolau ir gystadleuaeth anghywir stori ddirgelwch yn ennill y Fedal, a chyfrol o hunanffuglen arbrofol yn ennill y Daniel. A bod yn onest, doeddwn i ddim yn cael fy nenu gan y gyfrol hon ei henw, Ymbelydredd, ei thestun, sef gwr ifanc yn derbyn radiotherapi, ar clawr llwyd bygythiol a difrifol. Ond unwaith i mi fwrw iddi iw darllen, roedd yn wledd amheuthun, yn stori, yn gyffes, yn fyfyrdod, ac yn hollbwysig, roedd yn fy nghymell i droir tudalennau. Adroddir hanes gwr ifanc o Ben Llyn syn derbyn chwe wythnos o driniaeth ymbelydrol am diwmor, gan letya drwyr wythnos ym Manceinion a chael y deng munud o driniaeth yn yr ysbyty bob dydd. Gyda chymaint o amser rhydd maen penderfynu dod i adnabod y ddinas a manteisio ar y cyfle i ymweld ag orielau, tafarnau a mannau nodedig Manceinion. Dyma gyfle i werthfawrogi a phrofi ei amgylchedd, ond hefyd maer ymweliadaun sbarduno myfyrdodau ac atgofion am ei fywyd hyd yma, y math o fywyd maen ei fyw ai syniadau ai athroniaeth am bob math o bynciau. Mae perygl y gallai hyn arwain at gyfrol drom a difrifol, ond gydag arddull hamddenol ddeheuig a hiwmor ysgafn yn brithor tudalennau, dywr darllen ddim yn feichus o gwbl. Gyda sail y gyfrol yn deillio o brofiad personol yr awdur (bu Guto Dafydd yn derbyn yr union driniaeth yn ystod yr hydref y llynedd), yr hyn a geir yw math o hunangofiant. Maer prif gymeriad, na chawn wybod ei enw, dim ond ei rif ysbyty, wedi byw bywyd digon tebyg i Guto magwraeth mewn pentref ym Mhen Llyn, methu ymgartrefu ym mhrifysgol Rhydychen, priodi a chael plentyn, a myfyrdodau dyn ifanc or cefndir hwn syn agored ei feddwl ac syn awyddus i brofir byd a geir yn y nofel. Ond nid hunangofiant ywr gyfrol chwaith; am iddo greu stori o gylch y cymeriad, ac yna galwr gwaith yn hunanffuglen, wyddom ni ddim yn iawn pa elfennau syn wir. Oes ots? Wel nac oes, gan fod y cyfanwaith yn ddarlun o fywyd dyn ifanc digon tebyg i Guto, os nad Guto ei hun. Ond beth am y llinyn storol cryf? Hanes y driniaeth, a disgrifiadau or ffordd ofalus a manwl maer claf yn cael ei osod yn y man cywir i dderbyn y radiotherapi, a chymeriadau meddygol syn mynd a dod, gyda rhain ei weld fel corff a chlaf yn unig ond eraill yn ei drin yn fwy dynol dyna syn ffurfio sgerbwd y gyfrol, gydar myfyrydodaun deillio oi ddyddiaun crwydror ddinas. Ceir is-blot gyda chymeriadau digartref y ddinas, syn ychwanegu ychydig o gyffro, ond wn i ddim a ywr rhannau hyn yn taro deuddeg ir un graddau. Bun rhaid eu hychwanegu i fodloni gofynion cystadleuaeth Daniel Owen, ond gan fod gweddill y gyfrol yn teimlo mor realistig ac yn deillio o brofiadau dilys, maen gorwedd ychydig yn chwithig. Camp Guto yw creu cyfrol feistrolgar, lle mae ei ddiddordebau ai syniadau o uchel ddiwylliant a chelfyddyd i gwis tafarn, o gn 'Talu Bils' gan Rodney i geir Range Rover, o Shakespeare iw snog ai sigart gyntaf yn difyrru ac yn cynnal diddordeb y darllenydd.
