About the Book

Postharvest environmental conditions of fruits and vegetables significantly affect quality and shelf life. Bioengineering fruits and vegetables, however, can enhance their value and durability. This book addresses the issues related to postharvest losses in fruits and vegetable crops using cutting-edge technologies, bringing together the most recent developments, such as gene overexpression approaches (enzymes, transcriptional factors, or combinatorial engineering), promoter engineering, enhancing postharvest stability (shelf life), epigenetic regulation, antioxidant-regulated expression, metabolic engineering, and regulation of postharvest pathogen infection and decay using biotechnological tools and much more. The book throws light on the current status as well as future prospects in this field as well.

Table of Contents:
1. Bioengineering of Fruits and Vegetables: Current Status and Future Prospects 2. Genetic Transformation of Fruit and Vegetable Crops: Challenges and Opportunities 3. Developing Bioengineered Fruits and Vegetables for Postharvest Quality Improvement Using Heterologous, Overexpression, and Combinatorial Engineering 4. Enhancing Postharvest Stability and Shelf Life of Perishable Fruits and Vegetables Using Molecular Approaches 5. RNA Interference: Applications in Postharvest Quality Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables 6. Emerging Trends of Genome Editing Technology for Improvement of Postharvest Quality of Horticultural Crops 7. Regulating Postharvest Pathogen Infection and Decay Using Biotechnological Tools 8. Promoter Engineering for Improving Fruit and Vegetable Traits 9. Epigenetic Regulation of Pre- and Postharvest Quality Traits in Fruits and Vegetables 10. Genetically Modified Leafy Vegetables 11. Genetic and Genome Engineering of Underutilized Fruit and Vegetables Crops: Challenges and Opportunities for Postharvest Quality Improvement 12. Biosensors: Recent Advancements in Postharvest Management of Fruits 13. Bioengineering of Fruits and Vegetables Using Emerging Tools: Role of H2S, NO, H2O2 in Postharvest Quality Improvement 14. Metabolic Engineering of Plant Volatiles in Fruits and Vegetables for Postharvest Quality Enhancement
