About the Book

In his book Reengineering Purchasing: Lessons from the Front Lines, Paul Ericksen shares over three dozen personal experiences where he was responsible for fundamental changes to purchasing strategy and practice that increased the competitiveness of the companies and clients he worked at and for. His stories show how a more collaborative approach to supplier management increases the positive financial impact purchasing can contribute above-and-beyond material and services cost reduction.

At the end of each chapter are listed the lessons learned from each experience.

Reengineering Purchasing will benefit anyone working in supply management, as well as corporate executives looking for a new and expanded approach to purchasing.

Review :

"Drawing on personal experience from a long, successful career in purchasing, Ericksen shows how you can turn zero-sum negotiations in into win-win results. He is a thought leader in progressive supply chain strategy and practice." -Professor Josh Whitford, Associate Professor of Sociology, and Co-Director of the Idea Lab on Firms and Industrial Policy in the Center for Political Economy, Columbia University

"Ericksen provides urgently needed lessons learned that expand the scope and positive financial impact of corporate purchasing. He explains how the function can produce better financial impact by transitioning from a Fordist commodity procurement approach to one more suited to today's business challenges. A must-read for purchasing managers and corporate executives."

-Dr. Matt Vidal, Associate Professor of Sociology, Loughboro University

"With a storyteller's charm, Paul Ericksen turns purchasing tradition on its head, moving from 'we've always done it this way' to 'here's how we can excel together.' He skillfully reshapes leadership perspectives, transforming suppliers into strategic allies. A delightfully insightful guidebook for up-and-coming change agents." -Ryan Kelly, Vice-President of Technology, Association for Manufacturing Technology
