About the Book

Adversarial models for dealing with conflict waste time, money, and energy. They satisfy no one, so the conflict ends up resurfacing in a different form. Stewart Levine's "resolutionary" alternative goes beyond compromise and capitulation. He offers ten guiding principles that stop anger and resentment cold and enable both sides to return to productive, satisfying, functional relationships. Levine's seven-step conversational process fosters dignity and integrity, optimizes resources, and allows all concerns to be voiced, honored, and woven into the resolution. This second edition has been thoroughly revised with new examples; new tools; new material about communication, trust building, and virtual collaboration; and a more global outlook.

Table of Contents:
Part 1 For productivity and satisfaction: the value of resolution; the enormous cost of conflict. Part 2 A better way of resolving conflict: a case study of resolution; the path to resolution - a road map. Part 3 Principles: the foundation of the model for resolution; principle I - abundance; principle II - efficiency; principle III - creativity; principle IV - fostering resolution; principle V - vulnerability; principle VI - long term collaborator; principle VII - multi-sensory, feelings; principle VIII - full disclosure; principle IX - response-ability; principle X - learning. Part 4 Steps of the model: the principle applied; the attitude of resolution; telling your story; preliminary vision; getting current and complete; vision for the future - agreement in principle; new agreement - the vision in action; resolution; how the model supports the principles; resolution - benefits and applications. Part 5 Seeking professional help: using the teeth of the legal system; choosing a professional - the resolutionary. Part 6 A vision for the future: the art of resolution.
