About the Book

The ultimate gardener's guide to trees. Of all the planting decisions a gardener makes, the choice of trees is the most important. In this beautifully photographed reference, distinguished horticulturist Allen Paterson describes how to choose trees and use them effectively as part of a successful garden design. Selecting the right species for specific conditions such as climate, soil, and intended function are covered in detail. The book also considers the choice of trees in relation to the architecture of the house or adjacent buildings, the surrounding landscape, and the rest of the garden. Inspirational and informative, Best Trees for Your Garden offers practical and proven ideas for placing trees to best effect and using them creatively with other trees, shrubs, and plants. It also includes extensive advice for planting, pruning and maintaining garden trees. The second half of the book is an extensive directory of the best garden trees. Entries for each tree provide essential details such as leaf shape, flower, height, spread, and speed of growth.

About the Author :
