About the Book

'Hilarious, off-the-wall and great fun' Sun Laugh-out-loud illustrated fiction about unlikely friends Squirrel and Duck. Giggle as they outwit bungling burglars, with only the help of their pet cactus! Perfect for fans of the Dog Man and Grimwood series. 'Hilarious... addictive' Guardian 'Had me laughing out loud from the very first page' Emily-Jane Clark, author of The Beasts of Knobbly Bottom From the bestselling author of the Big Bright Feelings picture book series Squirrel and Duck might seem strange housemates but they are drawn together by their secret – they are the only two talking animals in the world! When bulldozers arrive to redevelop the abandoned theme park they call home, they run away, taking with them only Mr Spikes, Duck's beloved 'pet' cactus. When they hear a conversation between two nincompoop art thieves they end up on the trail of untold riches (according to Squirrel) or a great deed to help the nation (as far as Duck's concerned)! Only some surprisingly unhelpful woodland creatures stand in their way! Readers will love this zanily brilliant story, full of unlikely scenarios and laugh-out-loud moments. Don't miss book 2, Squirrel and Duck: Invasion of the Doggy-Snatchers.

About the Author :
Tom Percival is a writer, artist, video producer and musician. He grew up in the rural south-west and now lives in Gloucestershire. His series of picture books exploring the emotions, Big Bright Feelings, is widely loved, with Ruby's Worry and World Book Day book Billy's Bravery being the bestselling titles. In Squirrel and Duck, his new young fiction series, his irrepressible sense of humour and love of the anarchic come to the fore.

Review :
Irritable Squirrel and jolly, sanguine Duck live together in an abandoned fibreglass tree – until their home is destroyed and they're drawn into a saga of stolen paintings and helicopter heists in their quest for a new one. A hilarious, highly illustrated beginning to an addictive new 6+ series. Hilarious, off-the-wall and great fun Enough jeopardy, action and pace in the story to engage young readers throughout I just LOVE Squirrel and Duck! They are absolutely NUTS and won't stop arguing - even when they're trying to save their secret hideout. Mission Improbable had me laughting out laud from the very first page! Included in 'Best children's books of 2025'
