Not Yet Time

I wrote these poems when someone said to me "Doreen, just be content it is not yet time for you to prosper". Another person said to me "my Pastor said an elephant is pregnant for 18 months. So don't' rush to want to prosper". I told the person, I'm not an elephant but a human being. I did not have any source of income, begging for accommodation, food and clothing. I no longer had the luxury of buying myself clothes but wore second hand clothes some were too small or too big. I was told "remember beggars are not choosers". These poems are not only of my personal life but of other people I met who were facing different challenges. Like it is 35˚ hot and the person stays in a shack, there is no electricity, no fridge to get cold water or ice. He walks over 5km to work. He works nine hours a day with a fifteen minute break, monitored when he goes to the toilet. The factory is not a safe area to work in, no fire extinguishers, only one entrance, no air conditioners and he is told to work harder earning R50 a day. Sick leave is unpaid and there is no annual leave, the boss is a rich man who cares about himself and no one else. So pompous he does not even reverence God of heaven who created him. Such a person does not want to hear, pray, fast, have night vigil and have faith in God. An unwise person utter such words is staying in a mansion, air-conditioned, have a successful business and drive a car with air-condition in it. There was a time I complained and murmured and joined the murmuring group which is found in every country, race and tribe. I was used of staying in a town house, where I had a kitchen, a bathroom, a balcony where I could seat and relax. Here I had to bath in a small tub, boil water with either a kettle of make fire and boil water in a tin. I washed my clothes in a tub instead of a washing machine like I did before. I shared a toilet with at least 8 people. I was the one cleaning others user only messed. I no longer had the pleasure of going to a hair saloon to have my hair done. Someone said to me, 'take it easy, God will come through for you one day. You must have committed a big sin or bewitched with strong witchcraft". My response was that there is no big or small sin and when LORD Jesus Christ of Nazareth died, He died for all sins and defeated Satan on the Cross of Calvary, witchcraft was included as it is of Satan.

She went through rejection at home, in some churches and communities, unemployment, poverty, loss of material possession, sickness and disease and miscarriages. She suffered racism in her home and communities. Born to a Colored woman whose mother was White. She was rejected by some Venda and Coloreds. By God's grace she wrote and writes her books. Doreen wrote some of her books while being unemployed and not owning a computer or laptop and no source of income. Some of the notebooks she found in garbage bins and also used old diaries which she asked from people to write her manuscripts. She borrowed laptops, she cleaned internet café and was given time to type her books on their computers She also did some domestic work. This she did in spite of being a qualified Human Resources Officer and Skills Development Facilitator. God has honored her hard work in that her books are available world-wide. When she started schooling, her class was under a tree. She sat on stones and wrote on the ground using her fingers or pieces of sticks. On rainy days they did not attend school. She walked bare feet to school and wore over-sized clothes and sometimes torn clothes. She did most of her studying on a tree as that was the only quiet place she could find. Sometimes she found snakes on the tree and had to find another tree which was safe to study on. Little did she did know that she will be writing books one day. She endured beatings by teachers, bullies at school and was beaten at home as well. God used her Sunday school teacher and some of the school teachers to mold her life. Doreen learned to speak English at age 16 at an Indian school. All her teachers were Indians and about 97% of students where Indians. She failed Accounting and chose to do typing in the middle of the year. Doreen approached the school principal, (Indian) and asked him to change her Accounting subject to Typing. She did not know much English then. His response was that "my dear, it was never done in this school before". Her response was, Sir, let me be the first one. He approved her request. Little did she know she will use the typing skill to type her books 24 years later.
