About the Book

Who wants to move during high school? Certainly not Hailey Harper, whose father has a new job in Los Angeles. Leaving New York is daunting enough, but it's especially bad for Hailey, who's always felt invisible at school. She's pretty, she has friends, she likes art--but she isn't in the popular crowd. As Hailey is packing for the move, she finds a journal belonging to her older sister, who's away at college. The journal is called "How to Be a Hater." Has Hailey found the Bible of coolness? Quite possibly. Armed with the journal and her sister's hand-me-down skinny jeans and ballet flats, Hailey takes on a whole new persona for her first week at West Hollywood High, and she is quickly noticed by Skyler and her crew, the most popular girls at school. It doesn't take long for Skyler to decide Hailey is an asset to the group, and it doesn't take Hailey long to realize this group of girls is mean, mean, mean. She quickly sheds her hater persona and makes new friends, girls who are deemed unacceptable by Skyler. Soon Hailey and her group are plotting to dethrone Skyler and give her a taste of her own medicine. With the help of the journal and their own creativity, Hailey and her friends grow stronger. Skyler's ex even falls for Hailey. But what she doesn't bargain for is how good being a hater feels. Skyler deserves it, doesn't she?

Review :
"A poignant, hilarious, and always realistic portrait of teen angst and high school bullying. In Hailey Harper, Caprice Crane has created another heroine worth rooting for, along with a colorful supporting cast and a few mean girls that readers will love to hate. Don't miss this fresh and funny coming-of-age story!" -- "Emily Giffin, New York Times bestselling author" "An entertaining, honest, and humorous expression of a deeper truth that we all need to be more understanding of one another. A must-read for every girl in high school." -- "Missy Peregrym, cast of Rookie Blue" "From the first page of Confessions of a Hater, you are magically transported back to the halls of high school, no matter which clique you fell into. Popular, underdog, or other, you will have a character to identify with. Not only is this book laugh-out-loud funny, it packs a punch with a very important message. One of the things I love most about Caprice Crane's writing style is you always feel like you're getting to read a book written by one of your best friends." -- "Ashley Fink, cast of Glee" "Hailey's conversational, humorous narrative voice persuasively conveys the inner struggles of a girl trying to find her place in the world, while simultaneously building apprehension as her distorted reasoning and actions threaten to betray her core values and real friends. With a personable protagonist and cast of complex supporting characters, Crane's enjoyable, suspenseful coming-of-age novel captures the thrills, chills, highs, and lows of high school." -- "Publishers Weekly" "The voice is both unique and authentically teen...Girls who love books about the social pecking order will gravitate to Hailey's search for authenticity." -- "Booklist"
