About the Book

A modern take on the classic apocalyptic novel, Hater tells the story of Danny McCoyne, an everyman forced to contend with a world gone mad, as society is rocked by a sudden increase in violent assaults. Christened "Haters" by the media, the attackers strike without warning and seemingly without reason. Within seconds, normally rational, self-controlled people become frenzied, vicious killers. As the carnage mounts, one thing soon is clear: everyone, irrespective of race, gender, age, or class, has the potential to become either a Hater or a victim. At any moment, even friends and family can turn on one another with violent intent. In the face of this mindless terror, all McCoyne can do is secure his family, seek shelter, and watch as the world falls apart. But when he bolts the front door, the question remains: Is he shutting the danger out or locking it in?

About the Author :
David Moody grew up in Birmingham on a diet of horror and pulp science fiction books and movies. He worked for financial institutions before giving up his day job to write about the end of the world for a living. He has written a number of horror novels, including Autumn, which has been downloaded more than half a million times since its publication in 2001. He lives in the United Kingdom with his wife and a houseful of daughters and stepdaughters, which may explain his preoccupation with Armageddon. Gerard Doyle, a seasoned audio narrator, he has been awarded dozens of AudioFile Earphones Awards, was named a Best Voice in Young Adult Fiction in 2008, and won the prestigious Audie Award for best narration. He was born of Irish parents and raised and educated in England. In Great Britain he has enjoyed an extensive career in both television and repertory theater and toured nationally and internationally with the English Shakespeare Company. He has appeared in London's West End in the gritty musical The Hired Man. In America he has appeared on Broadway in The Weir and on television in New York Undercover and Law & Order. He has taught drama at Ross School for the several years.

Review :
"A head-spinning thrill ride, a cautionary tale about the most salient emotion of the twenty-first century." -- "Guillermo del Toro, director, Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy" "Moody's nail-biter of a debut plausibly creates a nightmare world...this intelligent, well-written chiller heralds a significant new talent." -- "Publishers Weekly" "Narrator Gerard Doyle's reading makes the story sound so nightmarish and real that it's deeply disturbing. Doyle's voice is steeped in panic and desperation, forcing the listener to adopt his cause no matter how high the stakes. Doyle's expert portrayal reminds us how transcendent audiobooks can be. Winner of the AudioFile Earphones Award." -- "AudioFile" "Reader Gerard Doyle puts everything into his work as he ratchets up the tension that builds around the increase of the apocalyptic Hater attacks. He is the very essence of the perfect narrator for this story. His reading of Moody's novel might actually make listeners' hearts pound a little faster and their breathing a little erratic. This demands a non-stop listening experience." -- "Soundcommentary.com" "The novel moves at a deliberate, relentless pace, feeding readers just enough information to keep them perplexed and paranoid, and the depiction of a society being rent at the seams by violence rings true. Moody creates some truly chilling scenes, but there are also flashes of black comedy...Engrossing and effective." -- "Kirkus Reviews"
