About the Book

On December 21, 2012, millions of people will be waiting for the world to end. On December 22, they will realize they were wrong. Read Dialogues on 2012: Why the World Will Not End and find out why. As 2012 approaches more and more people are hearing claims that the end of times is at hand and will occur on December 21, 2012. Dialogues on 2012: Why the World Will Not End takes a critical, and sometimes light-hearted, look at these claims and shows why there is no scientific validity to any of them. In short, the world is not coming to an end and this book shows why end-of-the-world claims should not be believed. The book is designed to be an easy read for the general public with some banter and humor between friends while also being scientifically accurate. Dialogues on 2012: Why the World Will Not End is written in the format of Galileo's great work Dialogues Concerning Two New Sciences. The book begins on January 1, 2012 and consists of three life-long friends exchanging emails throughout the year on different aspects of the 2012 mythos, culminating in December, 2012. In the style of Galileo's work, one friend is a believer in the mythos, a second one is a debunker and the third one is unsure and alternates between believing and being a skeptic. Each friend contributes to the conversation to generate a thorough understanding and explanation of the background of the claims, history of the Mayan people and calendar and the science involved with the predictions. Galactic alignments, Mayan calendar end dates, Pleiades photon belts, the rogue planet Nibiru, polar axis shifts, supervolcanoes, Nostradamus and other extreme end-of-the-world claims are examined and shown to be what they truly are - creative fiction sprung from some kernels of scientific facts . This book sheds light on the background of numerous end-of-the-world claims and shows why no one should fear December 2012. On December 22, 2012, the world will still be here, and this book explains why. Dr. Christopher Keating is a professor of physics with 20 years experience conducting research in space physics with several published scientific papers. His experience as a teacher includes nearly all topics in undergraduate physics, space science and astronomy. He has also served for over 30 years in the Navy and Navy Reserve working principally as an analyst in naval intelligence. His years of duty include tours on a destroyer, an intelligence command, an admiral's staff serving onboard aircraft carriers, numerous Navy Reserve units, the Physics Department at the U.S. Naval Academy, and mobilizations for Operations Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. This is his first book for popular reading. In addition to writing, teaching and doing research, Dr. Keating is busy as a single father raising a teenage son who is about to graduate from high school and calls Texas his home.
