About the Author :
Daniel Makagon, Ph.D. specializes in urban communication, cultural studies, ethnography, media criticism, and the study of community. His first book, Where the Ball Drops: Days and Nights in Times Square, was published by University of Minnesota Press in 2004. Makagon′s published articles on guerrilla art, cultural disruption, democracy, and urban life have appeared in the Journal of Communication Inquiry, Southern Communication Journal, Text & Performance Quarterly, and Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies. He has won publication awards from the Urban Communication Foundation, the National Communication Association’s Ethnography Divsion, and NCA′s Critical/Cultural Studies Division. Makagon is also editor of a special issue of Liminalities on the city and coeditor of a special issue of Text & Performance Quarterly on the seven deadly sins. His audio documentaries have been broadcast on public radio and DocumentaryWorks.org. Mark Neumann, Ph.D. is the founder and Director of DocumentaryWorks.org. He also serves as Director and Professor at the Northern Arizona University’s School of Communication. Neumann’s research interests include urban culture, travel and leisure, and cultural memory. He is conducting extensive research on amateur film at the Northeast Historical Film Archive in Bucksport, Maine. Neumann’s first book On The Rim: Looking for the Grand Canyon was published by University of Minnesota Press in 1999. His work has also appeared in the following journals: The Moving Image, Symbolic Interaction, Consumption and Society, Visual Sociology, Cultural Studies, Journal of Communication Inquiry, and Border/Lines.
