About the Book

Can there be a more famous or influential man in the tractor world than Harry Ferguson? When Ferguson returned to Britian from the USA after the Second World War, to join forces with the Standard Motor Company to make the famous TE20 tractor, he bought a Abbotswood, a 700-acre country estate in Gloucestershire in 1945 as his family home. The late Peter Warr joined the Abbotswood estate staff as a young man in 1948, remaining there until Ferguson’s death in 1960. Working closely on a day-to-day basis, Peter got to know Ferguson very well. This book is Peter’s memoir of his time at Abbotswood, where he not only made full use of Ferguson’s own tractors, but also demonstrated the revolutionary four-wheel drive vehicles in which Ferguson had invested. Peter describes his working days, giving a unique, personal insight into Ferguson’s character in his later life. It reveals that, despite failing health, Ferguson retained the charisma, personal kindness and consideration to others that endeared him to all who knew him and worked with him.

About the Author :
Farmer’s son, the late Peter Warr joined the staff of Harry Ferguson’s Gloucestershire estate, Abbotswood, aged 18 and remained there until Ferguson’s death in 1961. When Ferguson’s son-in-law moved to the Isle of Wight, Peter went with him, where he set up the Ferguson Family Museum. He continued to run it as Curator until his retirement during Covid. Harry Ferguson: the Man, the Machines, the Memories is being published posthumously on behalf of Peter Warr by the Ferguson Club.
