However it more commonly is meant to refer to Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, the technical name for the military complex inside (also known as the "CMC" or "Cheyenne Mountain Complex"). Constructed between 1961 and 1967 it long served as the Operational Headquarters of NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command).
