This creature lives in Norfair and Crateria and pops up from its hiding place as Samus Aran approaches and starts shooting fireballs at her. The creatures are bipedal Dragons, and have short, stubby wings. The anatomical purpose for these wings is unknown, as they are too small for flight. They may aid the Alcoons in vaulting out of their burrows to surprise their prey. Alcoons are a crimson-orange color in Norfair and a green color in Crateria. These creatures can be damaged by both beams and Missiles. The Super Metroid Nintendo Player's Guide states: "Alcoons spit fire at you after they leap from their hideouts."
