Excerpt: At about 3/4th of an inch, these walkers are quite small for Terra IV standards, but play a big role as tree recyclers: their old nest hollows, which can be as wide as 15 feet, provide warm, dry areas for species such as the Terrians, who in turn protect the colonies from other predators, much as terran ants tend to their aphids. Walkers appear as purple teardrop shaped insectoids with two pairs of double jointed limbs which help in stability and balance. They have four eyes and a collection of fungus growing from the top of its head which is its provides with protection and water, while the fungus (a number of species of the genus Lentescostipula, which means sticky stubble in Latin) provides the creature with emergency energy if the walker is hungry. Air Striders are a bizarre form of life on the planet Terra III. They were first discovered on a scientific expedition in 2509. Being a chemotrophic species, it feeds on orgainc compounds in the air and converts them using chemicals and substances secreted by the creature to dissolve and eventually convert the organics to energy.
