Excerpt: Ahui Nan was a fictional officer who served under Meng Huo and one of the leaders of the Third Cave. He was one of Meng Huo's reinforcements that was captured and released by the invading Shu. In the novel, Ahuinan is the third chief of the "Three Ravines," the other two were Jinhuansanjie and Dongtuna. The three chiefs were called into a meeting by Meng Huo and told that they would be rewarded a higher rank if they could rout the invaders. They were sent in three separate directions and each given 50,000 troops. Ahuinan was sent to the right. In a ploy devised by Zhuge Liang, he was captured by Zhang Yi while escaping a surprise attack launched by Zhao Yun and Ma Zheng on his camp. Ahuinan is treated well by his captors and is released by Zhuge Liang when he asks for his freedom. He is later sent to reinforce Shakou after Ma Dai crosses Lu River and kills Mangyachang. After Meng Huo's second capture and return, Ahuinan is killed to prevent any possible defections to Zhuge Liang. Cao Xing is an officer who served under Lu Bu and a subordinate of Gao Shun. He is one of the few generals who stayed loyal to Lu Bu during the events of Xia Pi. Cao ...
