Excerpt: The Augment Ability System, lit. "Decant Ability System") is a support ability system from Final Fantasy IV on the Nintendo DS. It allows characters to inherit and equip abilities from other characters. While some have several effects, such as Counter, others add new commands, including Sing or Twincast. A character can have as many Augments as the player wants, but they can only equip four Augments at once in the main command list, since Items cannot be removed. A fifth ability can be attached in the Auto-Battle command but it will not alter the character's stats and the player must activate Auto-Battle to use it. An Augment is received as a Key Item and is used from the inventory to impart it to a character, and cannot be used again. If the player imparts more than one Augment on a guest character, they will meet the requirements to obtain other Augments. For example, if the player gives Edward one Augment, he will give them Salve, in addition to just Bardsong. It is impossible to receive all of the Augments in one playthrough, as there are not enough to share early in the game.
