Excerpt: The Sky Fortress (referred to as such in the game files) is a heavy command cruiser featured in Air Combat. It is the first superweapon of the Ace Combat series. Near the end of the Kalugan rebellion, the pro-government forces, aided by the Phoenix Squadron, destroyed the final enemy stronghold. Shortly thereafter, allied forces discovered that the enemy was in control of a colossal airship. The Phoenix Squadron scrambled in pursuit of the airship, but by the time they were airborne it was too late to stop the fortress on the ground. The group intercepted the cruiser over the Kalugan ocean as it was en-route to the capital city, and a final confrontation ensued. Despite its superior firepower, the Phoenix Squadron destroyed the ship's engines and core area, which led its descent into the ocean.
