Auszug: Heinrich III. (* 28. Oktober 1017; 5. Oktober 1056 in Bodfeld, Harz) aus der Familie der Salier war von 1039 bis zu seinem Tod 1056 romisch-deutscher Konig und seit 1046 Kaiser. Bereits in jungen Jahren wurde Heinrich von seinem Vater Konrad II. 1028 zum Mitkonig erhoben und mit den Herzogtumern Bayern und Schwaben ausgestattet. Der Ubergang der Konigsherrschaft nach dem Tod seines Vaters erfolgte im Gegensatz zu anderen Machtwechseln in ottonisch-salischer Zeit reibungslos, und Heinrich fuhrte die Politik seines Vorgangers in den vorgegebenen Bahnen kontinuierlich fort. Seine Amtszeit fuhrte zu einer bis dahin unbekannten sakralen Uberhohung der Konigsherrschaft. So wurde wahrend Heinrichs Regentschaft der Speyerer Dom zum damalig grossten Gotteshaus der abendlandischen Christenheit ausgebaut. Gegenuber den Herzogen setzte Heinrich seine Auffassung von der amtsrechtlich begrundeten Verfugungsgewalt uber die Herzogtumer durch und sicherte damit deren Kontrolle. In Lothringen fuhrte dies zu jahrelangen Auseinandersetzungen, aus denen Heinrich als Sieger hervorging. Doch auch in Suddeutschland formierte sich in den Jahren 1052 bis 1055 eine machtige Oppositionsgruppe. 1046 beendete Heinrich das Papstschisma, befreite das Papsttum aus der Abhangigkeit vom romischen Adel und legte die Grundlage fur dessen universale Geltung. Sein fruher Tod wurde lange Zeit als Katastrophe fur das Reich angesehen. Jungere Beitrage sprechen hingegen vom Beginn einer Krise der salischen Monarchie in den Spatjahren seiner Regie..
