Not illustrated. 1866 edition. Excerpt: ...extensive, and well arranged, and contain many rare and valuable specimens. The museum also contains the saddle of the Duke of Wellington, and a large variety of interesting relics. An admission of sixpenc/e is charged; and there are also rates of annual subscription which entitle the members to constant admission for themselves, families, and friends. Conversazione meetings are held monthly each season. The Library, established in 1820, and until recently held in Amen Alley, has been recently incorporated with the museum, and occupies a fine suite of apartments in the building. It is supported by proprietary shares and by annual subscribers. The Derby Philosophical Library, founded by the celebrated Dr. Darwin, is also incorporated with the museum. The honorary secretary of the museum is Mr. L. J ewitt; of the library, Mr. F. Longdon. The DERBYBHIRE CLUB, Corn Market, is held in a spacious suite of apartments to the front of the King's Head. President, T. W. Evans, Esq., M. P.: Secretary, F. J. J essopp. The Mrzcrmnics' InsrirurE, 4 Wardwick, is a spacious and substantial building, with a pedimented front. Adjoining the general building is the large LEUIURE HALL, which was erected in 1836-7, at a cost of 2000, and is used for lectures, concerts, operas, etc. The hall is 75 feet in length, 40 feet in width, and its height is 65 feet. The walls are hung with a magnificent collection of pictures, bequeathed to the Institution by Joseph Strutt, Esq. At the entrance is the Publishing Office of the "Derby Telegraph." A spacious gallery has recently been erected in the Hall, and new rooms added to the general arrangement of the building. The secretary is Mr. W. C. Watson.
