About the Book

The revised and updated second edition of the popular and practical guide to contemporary operations management – now featuring a new chapter on managing sustainable supply networks. The Essential Guide to Operations Management explores fundamental operations management principles and shows how they are applied in real-life situations in both the services and manufacturing sectors. As such, it addresses the needs of practising managers, postgraduate MBA and MSc students and final-year undergraduates in advanced operations management elective courses. The Essential Guide to Operations Management: Concepts and Case Notes, Second Edition, is supported by updated case studies throughout and online support materials for lecturers.

Review :
"A highly readable text with a laser-sharp focus on the contemporary aspects of Operations Management. Written to be put into practice, the material is essential reading for students and managers." Professor Claire Hannibal, Professor of Operations Management, Liverpool Business School, Liverpool John Moores University, UK. -------------------------- "Bamford, Forrester and Reid all have comprehensive industrial backgrounds covering a number of operation management roles. It is this, combined with academic rigour across a number of operation management disciplines that reflects their cutting-edge research, which results in a text fit for purpose in today’s environment. They are all first-class lecturers, and this comes to the fore in the way they make key points in the book to illuminate student learning." Professor Barrie Dale, Emeritus Professor, Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, UK. --------------------- "Bamford, Forrester and Reid provide an essential update on operations management revisiting both the model and context in the current economic climate while integrating important topics such as agile and resilient operations, digital transformation, and managing supply networks. Operations Management is about "getting the job done, done well, and delivering enhanced value creation". This text sets the reader off on the right course." Vernon Barker OBE, Retired Project Director, Transport Consultant and Rail Industry Director. --------------------- "This textbook is a tight, flowing combination of well-grounded theory and practical examples, with a stress on long-term value and organizational strength. It correctly stresses that this can only be gained by ensuring a financially sustainable business model, and environmentally sustainable, responsible operations. A good read that makes a valuable contribution." Stephen Oliver, VP Corporate Marketing & Investor Relations, Navitas Semiconductor, Los Angeles, California. -------------------------- "This is a much-welcomed update of Bamford and Forrester’s excellent and aptly named ‘Essential Guide to Operations Management’. The addition of Iain Reid to the line-up of authors brings an additional wealth of experience, which is reflected in the topicality and practical nature of this book. As well as the fundamentals of operations management, the book addresses the evolving challenges organisations face, especially sustainability, and these are dealt with in a clear, concise and straightforward manner. Whether you are a practitioner, researcher or student this book is for you – buy it!" Professor Bernard Burnes, Chair of Organisational Change, Stirling Management School, University of Stirling, Scotland -------------------------- "Bamford, Forrester and Reid have crafted an excellent resource to support students getting to grips with what Operations Management is and how we see this in industry today. I am very pleased to see the addition of the new chapter ‘Managing Sustainable Supply Networks’. Given the volatility of our global marketplace, the effective management of supply chains is essential to business competitiveness and viability. This textbook covers the salient ingredients that all operation management specialists should be aware of and is a very useful resource for all business and management students. This textbook is equally valuable for managers wishing to understand more about operational tools and techniques as part of their ongoing continuous personal development." Professor Liz Breen, Professor of Health Service Operations, University of Bradford School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, UK -------------------------- "The 'Essential Guide to Operations Management' by Bamford, Forrester and Reid is a core textbook for undergraduate, post-graduate and executive education. Fundamental concepts and technical tools are supported with case studies that make this book indispensable. Now the revised and 2nd edition, ensures that this dynamic and complex subject captures contemporary developments in the field." Dr Kate McLoughlin, Assistant Professor in Management, University College Dublin, Ireland --------------------------
