About the Book

Notes of Light and Dark: Southwestern Aubades and Nocturnes is an exciting poetic interpretation of dawns and dusks, mornings and evenings, sunrises and sunsets by a diverse range of poets who have experienced the wonders of the skies of the American Southwest. Whether Texas Hill Country, Big Bend, White Sands, Bisti Badlands, Rocky Mountains, Grand Canyon, or Death Valley, the Southwest is blessed with wide remote spaces and skies as endless as the imaginations of the 107 poets represented in these pages. Here are poems of love and loss, of discovery and abandonment, of nature and landscapes, of witness and faith in a variety of free verse, prose poems, and other forms from abecedarians to haibun to sonnets. With their candor, insight, and lyricism, these aubades and nocturnes are guaranteed to make you see the light of the lands and people of the American Southwest, as well as the dark.
