About the Book

The Pacific Profiles series presents the most accurate WWII profiles of Allied and Japanese aircraft which served throughout Australia; the South Pacific and New Guinea theatres. This Volume 16 covers the B-17E and F series which served in these theatres from their first appearance in Australia in the early weeks of the Pacific War until the final commander’s Fortress was scrapped in late 1944. The Fortress served with a total of one provisional and eighteen USAAF bombardment squadrons whilst many; after being stripped down and modified; went on to serve as transports and commander’s aircraft. Most profiles are presented for the first time; alongside markings derivations; including unit heraldry; artwork and serial numbers. This volume corrects past errors and bridges a vast gap in Fortress markings throughout the Pacific including Thirteenth Air Force transports and an early squadron which served with the USN. Each profile is supported by photos and/or documentation; along with the brief history of each bomber. Wide-ranging reference material sources assignment data; wreck reports; squadron records; colour photography; maintenance logs; diaries; air base movement logs and markings specifications. The profiles are accompanied by brief unit histories and associated markings explanations. The author is world-renown for his expertise on the Pacific air war. Never before has the Pacific Fortress been illustrated with such breadth; accuracy and detail.

Review :
"In my opinion it is an interesting choice for modelers who don't want to go with standard options offered by model brands. Whole style is easy to read and understand, while some photos are published for the first time. As you can guess, scale of the model doesn't matter, this book will be equally handy in small or big project."-- "Detail Scale View" "I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Pacific aerial campaigns and in particular anyone with an interest in Flying Fortress operations both from a historian's perspective and a modeler's viewpoint."-- "The Aviation Enthusiast Book Club" "It all makes for a superb reference book for the modeler and enthusiast and well worth the price of admission. I very much like this series and look forward to each new volume. Most highly recommended."-- "ModelingMadness.Com" "The author is world-renown for his expertise on the Pacific air war. Never before has the Pacific Fortress been illustrated with such breadth, accuracy and detail."-- "Aeroscale" "The book is a fascinating and remarkable insight into B-17E and F Flying Fortresses and their operations in the South Pacific, Southwest Pacific, and Australian theaters, complete with extensive photographs and color profiles..."-- "IPMS/USA" "Lots of interesting detail in this one once again, and all from original source material as laid out in the book. Some unusual colour schemes and detail that are rarely seen on models, so this might well generate a good deal of new interest among modellers. The colour profiles are every bit as good as we have come to expect from this series of books, and it made for interesting reading."-- "Military Model Scene"
