KOHN PEDERSEN FOX, one of the world's most prestigious architectural firms, has offices in New York, London, Berlin, and Tokyo. The recipient of the AIA's top firm award in 1990, KPF's impressive project list includes IBM's headquarters in Armonk, New York, the World Bank in Washington, DC, and the Shanghai World Financial Center. STEPHEN A. KLIMENT, FAIA, is an architectural journalist and an adjunct professor at the City College of New York. He was editor in chief of Architectural Record from 1990 to 1996. He is the editor and founder of the series Building Type Basics.
