About the Author :
Dr. O.P. Mishra is a distinguished Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, with over 30 years of experience in the field of Applied Geophysics, Seismology, and Disaster Risk Management Science. He earned his M.Sc. Tech degree from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) [IIT (ISM)] Dhanbad, one of the premier institutes of Earth Sciences in the world. Dr. Mishra obtained Ph.D./D.Sc. from Geodynamics Research Centre (GRC), Ehime University, Japan, and a PGDMA from AIMA, New Delhi. He worked with different organizations in India and abroad in different capacities, namely the Geological Survey of India for about 20 years where he applied almost all Geophysical methods for natural resource exploration and contributed toward high-resolution seismic imaging of sub-surface strata to understand the deep-seated resources and tectonic intricacies of the study region., Geodynamics Research Centre, Ehime university where he conducted cooperative researches on 3-D seismic tomography for different geotectonic settings of the world. Dr. Mishra has held key positions, including Director of the SAARC Disaster Management Centre and Foreign Guest Professor at GRC, Japan. A prolific researcher, he has published a series of od research papers and supervised several researchers at graduate and doctoral levels. His accolades include the National Mineral Award (2008) and the Anni Talwani Gold Medal (2015). He is a life member of numerous esteemed professional bodies of several countries, including AGU and of other professional bodies of the world. Dr. D.C. Naskar is currently a Consultant at the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, New Delhi where he mentors early-career scientists and plans seismological studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Science from Jadavpur University and an M.Sc. in Physics from Calcutta University. Dr. Naskar’s career began in July 1989 with the Geological Survey of India (GSI), where he served as Director (Geophysics) until his retirement in January 2021. Over his 32 years at GSI, he gained extensive experience in geophysical mapping, leading surveys across India in mineral exploration, groundwater studies, and environmental research. He also served as Chief Consultant (Geophysics) at DMT Pvt. Solutions Ltd. and worked in earlier roles with South Eastern Railway and the West Bengal State Electricity Board. Notable projects include a kimberlite exploration with De Beers and a GPS survey for the 2004 Indonesian earthquake’s impact in the Andaman-Nicobar Islands. Dr. Naskar has authored over 140 publications and received numerous awards, including the H.S. Pareek Award for his research on coal science. He is a life member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE).
