About the Author :
Walt Alan Stoy is Professor and Director of Emergency Medicine at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and the Director of Educational and International Emergency Medicine at the Center for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Stoy has served as the Project Director of the 1998 EMT-Intermediate & Paramedic: National Standard Curricula Revision Project. He was the Principal Investigator for National Guidelines for the First Aid Training Curriculum. He has served as Principal Investigator to the 1994 EMT-Basic: National Standard Curriculum and Project Director to the 1995 First Responder: National Standard Curriculum.Dr. Stoy has written more than 60 instructional guides including Instructional Guides for the Street Medicine Series, the Hands-On Series, and the ACLS Series. He is an Affiliate Faculty Member or Instructor in numerous pre-hospital and medical education programs, including: Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dr. Stoy is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Education Subcommittee for Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) for the American Heart Association (AHA). In addition, he has accepted a position as Content Level Leader (CLL) for the upcoming revision of the EMS national curricula. Dr. Stoy will be responsible for all the patient assessment content.Dr. Stoy has more than 30 years of experience in EMS. He was awarded his Doctorate of Philosophy in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Education in Instruction and Learning with a concentration in Instructional Design Technology. Thomas Platt is an Assistant Professor and Vice Program Director of Emergency Medicine at the School of Health and Rehavilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and the Associate Director of Education and International Emergency Medicine at the Center for Emergency Medicine.Mr. Platt has assisted in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of many national projects, including his service as a technical advisor for the EMT-Basic: National Standard Curriculum (NSC), Co-Principal Investigator for the First Repsonder: NSC, and a writer for the EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic: NSC. Mr. Platt has more than 20 years of prehospital experience. He has authored nemerous textbook chapters, instructional guides, and video scripts. Most recently, has has worked on EMS system development in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iceland.Mr. Platt has an undergraduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's Degree in Adult Education from Penn State University. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. Mr. Platt teaches in the Center's EMT-Basic and Paramedic Programs as well as the udnergraduate degree in Emergency Medicine and the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Pittsburgh. Debra A. Lejeune is an Instructor at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and a Coordinator for Education and International Emergency Medicine at the Center for Emergency Medicine.Ms. Lejeune works with JEMS magazine to publish monthly continuing education articles. These continuing education articles are read by thousands of EMS providers and used to maintain national and state certifications. Ms. Lejeune has coauthored Mosby's EMT-Basic Textbook, coauthored and served as the developmental editor for Mosby's First Responder Textbook, and assisted in the development of the ancillary workbooks and instructors' manuals. She has also served as a technical advisor and script writer for various educational EMS videos. Ms. Lejeune teaches in the Center for Emergency Medicine's Paramedic Programs as well as the undergraduate degree in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.Ms. Lejeune received her Master's Degree in Research Methodology from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Epidemiology through the Graudate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh.
