About the Book

The Management Learning Contract is a method of helping people to learn skills, acquire knowledge and develop whatever competences they want or need in relation to their work. When it is used correctly, the MLC method is probably the best way to motivate managers to learn and to support them while they are developing. The purpose of this book is to encourage and to help those involved in training and development to use the Management Learning Contract method effectively, without making more than the inevitable number of initial mistakes. It assumes no previous knowledge, so it will suit the complete beginner. It goes into the details of how to deal with difficult situations, so it will also, have something useful to say to the more seasoned practitioner. It has been written on the basis of experience in using MLCs with a large number of managers over several years and it aims to provide a practical guide to the opportunities and problems. Throughout the book there are short case studies, anecdotes and examples of the efforts individual learners and managers.
