William T. ShermanWilliam T. Sherman (1820-1891) was a prominent American military leader who served as a Union general during the American Civil War. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1840. He worked as a banker in San Francisco before the outbreak of the Civil War. After the war, Sherman continued to serve in the Army and was promoted to the rank of General. He also served as the Commanding General of the Army from 1869 to 1883. Sherman died in 1891 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
