William P. Atkins
William P. Atkins is a trial lawyer, with over 30 years of experience handling more than 250 litigations, and a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. His practice centers on intellectual property law, with a focus on trial and appelate courts as well as proceedings before the International Trade Commission and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as he is a registered patent attorney. His diverse caseload has spanned from defending the accused in a murder trial to securing co-inventorship rights for both a state university professor and research assistant on multi-billion-dollar cancer drug formulation patents. Beyond his legal practice, he is an editor and contributor to this book and author of the PTAB Handbook, currently in its eighth edition. Additionally, he teaches courses at George Washington University and the University of Maryland law schools and chaired numerous committees across various bar associations, including serving as president of the Bar Association of D.C. and its foundation.
