William Harmon NortonAmerican geologists join the widow and friends in mourning the loss of William Harmon Norton, a renowned scientist, scholar, and author who passed away on May 3, 1944, at his Mount Vernon, Iowa, home. He started teaching geology in 1890 after giving p his position as professor of Greek language and literature in 1881. He continued to publish works in the field of evolution both domestically and overseas. From 1903 until 1913, he served as an assistant on the U.S. Geological Survey. He was voted to the board in 1924 as a result of his astute economic judgment and commercial aptitude. Although Dr. Norton was a geology expert, he preferred to be recognized for his contributions to the study of tea. He read extensively about music history and possessed a sizable library of outstanding musical works. A highlight of eastern Iowa was his embracing of the state's choice bulbs, many of which he produced.
