Campbell holds his PhD in Mediaeval History from the University of St Andrews and the Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies degree from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies in Toronto, Canada. He wrote two other volumes in the Fasti Eccesiae Anglicanae series, on Exeter and Hereford cathedrals from 1541 to 1857, and The Landscape of Pastoral Care in Thirteenth-Century England (Cambridge, 2018).
